Espejos Quietos

"I Can't, said Fear."

"I Can't, said Fear."

For a long time, I've been trying to run. Run from things, from situations, from people. This is a mini self-portait series on my train of thoughts. "Espejo Quietos" means "Still Mirrors" and this series is my attempt in trying to capture my growth. In being still with myself trying not to catch all the thoughts that zooms in the mind.

"I'll Fail, said Doubt."

"I'll Fail, said Doubt."

As a young woman of color in the United States, the world sometimes wants to doubt you. Your worth, your humanity, your value. Navigating this can be a challenge. It can unsettle parts and trigger memories. But learning to be still, to acknowledge your queendom and fight is never too far. Look to you ancestros, your mothers and grandmothers who taught you what hustle is.

"Try Me, said Confidence."

"Try Me, said Confidence."

The mind is a lot powerful than the body, a Muay Instructor told me once. That you may push your body to its limit, and as long as you tell yourself you can, you will.

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for them become character. Watch your character, for they will become your destiny."
